PALESTINE— Local businessmen Mark Grantz and
Kenneth Bratz have put an updated spin on an old bestseller — Napoleon
Hill’s self-improvement guide, “Think and Grow Rich.”
The pair have been awarded a licensing agreement to produce the abridged
version of “Think and Grow Rich” on a pair of audio CDs, a script for the CD
set, action guides for each section of the book and a goal-setting notebook.
Their company, Leadership Resources and Consulting, located on U.S 84 East,
has produced the materials as a way to make Hill’s timeless message easier
to attain in today’s world.
The mission statement posted on their Web site —
www.reach-your-potential.com — reads, “Our mission is to assist our
corporate customers and individuals to improve productivity and performance
by empowering employees to reach their greatest potential. Thru (sic) the
tools, training and encouragement we provide, people gain knowledge and a
passion for life. We are motivated and driven by their personal success
which leads to professional success for our clients and our company.”
They plan to accomplish their mission through an idea nearly 100 years old,
doing what Grantz termed “resurrecting a monster.”
The “Think and Grow Rich” book came about as the result of an idea by
philanthropist and steel magnate Andrew Carnegie, who introduced Hill to the
world of philosophy in an effort to pick the brains of Henry Ford, Alexander
Graham Bell, Thomas Edison and the like to find the secrets of their
success. The book itself has sold some 70 million copies since its initial
printing in 1937.
“He (Carnegie) wanted him (Hill) to work for him for nothing for 20 years —
the most richest man in the world asked Napoleon Hill to work for him for
nothing for 20 years,” Grantz said in a recent interview. “Well, of course
it turned out not to be nothing. He wanted him to come up with a new
philosophy, not the philosophy of Socrates but a different philosophy.”
Hill later worked as an adviser for President Franklin D. Roosevelt from
1933-36, during which time he began to put together what would become “Think
and Grow Rich,” Grantz said.
“When he got out of the President’s office in 1937,” Grantz said, “he took
this to his publisher and they read the thing from cover to cover and the
publisher said this would be the most powerful book we’ve ever been able to
publish, so they published it.”
The principles Hill outlined in his book are expanded upon in the
accompanying study material developed by Grantz and Bratz in an effort to
show readers how to put Hill’s suggestions into daily practice, Grantz said.
“This is the most powerful tool I’ve ever seen for personal growth,” Grantz
said. “Not only will it help individuals but it will help corporations to
get their employees moving on the right track and increase production.”
